Judgement Day: guests to judge at 8th annual wine festival

Fairmont Hot Springs Resort is offering guests the chance to sip, soak and judge B.C.’s finest wines as it hosts eighth Annual East Kootenay Wine Festival on Saturday, November 7.

The festival has expanded to 27 B.C. wineries from last year’s 14, including Mission Hill, Inniskillin, Sumac Ridge Estates and Red Rooster. Following the success of last year’s festival, Fairmont Hot Springs is again giving guests the opportunity to judge the wines and select the winners.

Those who take part in the Wine Festival and Accommodation Package will be trained in the art of wine tasting before conducting their own blind taste tests to determine the winners.
Categories include red, white, rosé and dessert wines.

“This festival continues to be the must-attend event in the Kootenays,” Marion Garden, marketing manager at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, says.

“We had very positive feedback from last year’s festival where guests were able to take an active role in choosing the top wine, so we’re offering the same opportunity this year.”

The festival will be held on November 7 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Lodge at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort. The resort is offering a wine festival package to give guests a complete wine tasting experience for $390 per couple.
The Wine Festival and Accommodation Package includes: Two nights’ accommodation for two in a standard room, admission to the Wine Festival on November 7 and a wine-paired gourmet dinner in the Mountain Flowers Dining Room on November 6.

Last year’s winning wineries, Skimmerhorn and Rustic Roots, will present and discuss wines during dinner.

On November 7 there will be a tutorial on how to taste wines, followed by a blind taste test for each category.

The cost of the Wine Festival itself is $35 per person, including wine and snacks. Tickets are available by calling 1-800-663-4979 or 250-345-6000.

There will also be a variety of door prizes that will include Fairmont Hot Springs Resort vacation packages.

“If you’re looking for a fun way to get introduced to wine tasting, this is the perfect opportunity to do it in a fun and relaxed atmosphere,” Garden says.
