Magic Carpet expansion adds to family fun

Special to The Echo

Fairmont Hot Springs Resort recently announced they are continuing to build the ultimate B.C. Rockies experience with a significant investment to make their ski hill even more family friendly.

A 91 metre (300 foot) Magic Carpet lift is being installed at the base of the hill to enhance the learning experience for novice skiers and snowboarders. Investment in the lift is expected to break six figures and it will be built directly in front of the Ski Chalet—making it easy for parents to supervise their children.

The new lift takes the intimidation out of learning to ski and snowboard by enabling learners to simply shuffle onto a moving conveyor belt, instead of navigating high-speed chairs and awkward T-bars.

“Families are our focus during the ski season and this new Magic Carpet will further enhance our popular ski school,” Peter Harding, ski operations manager at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, says. “We’re confident that this new addition will convince even the most tepid of skiers to give it a try. Of course once they do they’ll be hooked!”

Fairmont Hot Springs Resort is also dedicating the area around the Magic Carpet for their ski school and for those new to the sport. Children and adults alike will benefit from having an area dedicated to improving their skills and gaining confidence.

The family ski hill at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort is expected to open on Dec. 18 and close April 11, weather permitting.

With a total of 13 groomed runs, ranging from green to blue in skill level, the resort is the perfect place for family and novice skiers to hone their skills. The intimidation factor is removed and friendly ski school staff makes taking to the slopes an exciting and rewarding experience for youngsters of all ages.

Parents can either join their children on the ski hill, or relax by the fire in the warmth and comfort of the ski chalet while keeping a watchful eye on their kids—as all runs funnel into view of the chalet.

In addition to group or individual beginner lessons, the resort offers a variety of programs to help develop skills and increase confidence. The Kids Adventure Club provides both instruction and games to keep kids entertained for hours on end.

The Fairmont Hot Springs Ski School has a wide array of skiing and snowboarding programs for all ages operated by certified Canadian Ski Alliance Instructors.

One of the main advantages of a stay at Fairmont Hot Springs is its central location. The resort is within easy driving distance of Kimberley, Panorama, Fernie and Kicking Horse ski resorts. The confidence gained at the Fairmont Hot Springs family ski resort can quickly be transferred to other hills for young and old alike.
