Community features vineyard, golf course Touring through the hills above upscale homes and a vineyard, professional golfer Fred Couples likes the way his signature course is shaping up in Vernon, B.C. "The course is absolutely stunning," said the PGA veteran and course designer following a site inspection of The Golf Club at The Rise. "It will set the standard for championship golf in the Okanagan." Located on a ridge overlooking two arms of Okanagan Lake, the par 72, 7,000-plus yard, 18-hole track, is Couples first signature course in Western Canada. It has been designed to mesh with the naturally rugged topography of the hillside property. The back nine of this challenging, picturesque course could be ready for limited play this summer, with play restricted to property owners and invited guests, says Couples. A grand opening has been scheduled for spring 2008. "The lake views on the course are breathtaking and have to be seen to be believed," he says. Couples/Bates Design -- which includes award-winning golf course architect Gene Bates -- and Blackpaw Construction have designed the course. Ian Renton of Blackpaw has also been involved in the construction of Greywolf at Panorama Mountain Resort , as well as The Dunes in Kamloops. The Rise is a 294-hectare, master-planned community. Besides the golf course, it has a winery, vineyards, hotels, village centre and private lakeside beach club. It also has several neighbourhoods that consist of single-family homes and villas meandering up the hillside. There are currently four neighbourhoods -- Clearview, Sagecroft, Sagecroft Villas and Watermark. Except for nine show homes that display the design portfolio for all of The Rise, Clearview is sold out. The show homes, built on some of the view lots on the site, are for sale beginning at $709,000. Sagecroft Villas, a development of duplexes, had 15 sales in just three months. The remaining five lots are priced from $516,950.
