The Rise, a $1-billion master-planned resort community overlooking Lake Okanagan, aims to meet its buyers' vacation needs with a triple threat approach, topped off by a spectacular view.

"The Rise offers all of what makes the Okanagan great," says Leona Snider, the president and chief executive of Okanagan Hills Development Corp. "There is a one of a kind Fred Couples Signature Golf Course with stunning lake views on 12 out of 18 holes, a world class winery and vineyard and a private Beach Club. It is the Triple Crown of amenities," she says.

With consulting engineers EBA Engineering, The Rise undertook an extensive and detailed environmental study in the Okanagan Valley, mapping out ecosystems and micro-climates. The result is that one-third of the land will be developed, one-third will be preserved, and one third used as a golf course.

The 735-acre development, which will consist of 660 residential resort homes, hotels and villas, as well as 550 commercial units, is well into construction and sales, with the golf course ready for play this September.

The community includes park space, a private beach and various walking trails, as well as a village centre.

Ms. Snider believes that the all-season activity (boating, hiking, golf and skiing) and various amenities (village shops, fitness centre, vineyard and beach club) will attract a variety of buyers. "For families looking for vacation property, baby boomers planning for retirement, locals looking to move up, and investors, The Rise offers a full range of housing options," she says.

There are currently three home types for offer: villa, model home or site lot. The villas have been created with a Mediterranean design that features wood and wrought-iron accents, as well as roof tiles from Spain that match the surrounding natural rock.
