What would a home-away-from-home be without the chance to chase a little white ball with a stick, doing some turf renovating at the same time?

Vernon is the perfect spot for golf with nine courses within a short drive -- and more to come.

The most impressive is Predator Ridge golf course, 10 kilometres south of Vernon, which offers 27 championship holes and plans are in place to add another nine in the near future.

Others in the neighbourhood include:

- Vernon Golf and Country Club:

Built in 1903 on Vernon Creek, it is the area's longest-established course just minutes from the downtown core.

- Lakers Golf Course:

This is a par-three course in Okanagan Landing.

- Hillview:

North of Highway 6 at 15th Street is an 18-hole par-56 course that is a five-minute drive from the downtown core.

- Highlands Golf:

This is a new nine-hole par-three course a 10-minute drive east of Vernon.

Moving a bit further afield, you'll find:

- Royal York Golf Club and RV Park in Armstrong, B.C.:

This is a nine-hole par-35 course nestled between the sunny Okanagan and cooler, forested Shuswap Valley.

- Birchdale Par 3 Golf:

Located about 30 kilometres north of Vernon on Highway 97A.

- River Ridge Golf Course:

River Ridge is a 45-minute drive east of Vernon on Highway 6.

- Coldstream Golf Course:

Located between Lumby and Vernon on Dure Meadow Road.

- Salmon Arm Golf Course:

Rated as one of B.C.'s top 20 and Canada's top 60 by Golf Canada.

- Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club:

Located 11 km north of Vernon on Highway 97.

- The Rise:

Located in Vernon, The Rise will have its golf course complete and open for business next May.
