Enjoy an idyllic vacation at Hummingbird

By Nicole McLaws

This is an idyllic place. The water is calm, the sky is blue and flowers bloom from the carefully tended planters that sit only feet from the sandy beach.

Homes are cheery and welcoming, children fly kites and ride bikes, and parents enjoy the stunning view of the mountains. At Hummingbird Beach Resort in Sicamous, B.C., summer living is just what it’s meant to be.

“We’re getting a lot of interest from families who are looking for a secure development that they can start building memories at this summer,” says Steele Jordan, president of Mara Lake Estates Ltd.

Indeed, this is the quintessential family getaway. More than 500 ft. of sandy beachfront provide kids with a place to play, while parents can relax in the sun.

Adventure-seekers can take a spin around the cool blue water of Mara Lake and dock their boats at the development’s private slip. Golfers will appreciate the nearby Hyde Mountain golf course.

Home chefs can prepare mouthwatering desserts with locally grown fruit in their gourmet kitchens, and at the end of the day, parents and kids can gather on the deck for a lazy, starlit dinner.

“Hummingbird has been designed to be the perfect family getaway location,” Jordan says, and that’s clear from the moment one turns into the community.

Homes are well-built and timeless, offering quaint Craftsman-style architecture. Vibrant reds, deep blues, warm tans and soft greys comprise home exteriors, while ample balconies and decks extend living space outside.

Inside, lakefront townhomes and cabins are luxurious and spacious, with three- or four-bedroom layouts, private, landscaped yards and decks and state-of-the-art kitchens boasting stainless-steel appliances, granite countertops and custom hickory cabinetry.

Living spaces are flooded with natural light, heated slate tile entries are a warm and welcoming feature, and gleaming hardwood flooring lends a natural atmosphere throughout each open-concept main floor.

This high standard of living extends throughout the 35 detached cabin homes, as well — the two-storey, three-bedroom abodes feature upper and lower decks, a choice of granite or laminate kitchen countertops, maple cabinetry and oak hardwood floors.

Lastly, there are 34 cottage sites located along the banks of a gurgling creek, offering customized, well-designed park model cottages, along with unique 100-sq.-ft. bunkhouses where kids or guests can spend the night.

Each home, Jordan adds, is as functional as it is attractive, with air conditioning, washers and dryers and parking spaces.

In short, nothing has been forgotten, no extra has been missed — and this is something appealing to the dozens of families already enjoying the development’s many benefits.

“We have already seen friendships develop from those who moved in last year,” he says.

“In fact, we’re receiving several referrals from happy homeowners anxious to have their friends and family join them this summer.”

And why not? The fishing’s great, the weather’s warm, the scenery is breathtaking and the town of Sicamous is moments away.
